Protaper Retreatment

ProTaper Retreatment files are endodontic rotary instruments specially designed for the removal of fillings (gutta-percha, cements, thermoplastic materials) during retreatment treatments (re-endo). They allow the root canal to be reopened and the filling materials to be efficiently removed before reshaping and filling.

Main features

• D1, D2, D3 blade system adapted respectively to the coronal, median and apical thirds of the canal

• Active tip on D1 to facilitate initial penetration into the filling material

• D2 and D3 blades with non-cutting tip to prevent perforations and allow controlled removal

• NiTi alloy construction for flexibility and fatigue resistance

• Sterile packaging, single use only

• Typical lengths: 16 mm, 18 mm, 22 mm depending on the version

• Compact handle (often less than 11 mm) for better visibility in the mouth

Recommended instructions for use

1. Use D1 to penetrate and remove the coronal portion of the gutta-percha or thermoplastic material.

2. Use D2 to remove material from the middle third.

3. Use D3 to reach the apical region and remove remnants down to working length.

4. Change the instrument as soon as it shows signs of wear.

5. Provide continuous irrigation, local lubrication and pressure control.

6. After removal, proceed with final shaping of the canal and obturation.

Precautions & recommendations

• Do not reuse: single use only

• Check the future of the instrument before use (no visible twisting, no cracks)

• Do not force the instrument - advance with gentle movements

• Use a suitable irrigation flow to flush out debris

• Follow the manufacturer's recommended speeds and settings

• Dispose of used instruments in a suitable sharps container.
